To support the underprivileged meritorious students, social activist and businessman Vijay Passi today handed over a cheque for Rs 1.11 crore to Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria.

The Governor said the amount would be used for financially supporting the talented youth of Punjab and Chandigarh under the “Society for Empowerment of Disadvantaged Talented Youth”. The society has taken this initiative to provide meritorious students of Class VIII and X of government schools of Punjab and Chandigarh with cash scholarships and certificates of appreciation.

The Governor said in July and February, 600 students were given the financial aid of more than Rs 40 lakh by the society and this practice would continue on a regular basis.
