Shahabad accident: Prof’s mother dies of burn injuries
The mother of Prof Sandeep Naseer, who died last week after the car in which his family was travelling caught fire in Shahabad, succumbed to her injuries at the PGIMER today. This is fifth death in the family in the same accident.
For 11 days, Naseer’s mother Sudesh battled for life. On November 11, Naseer’s wife Lakshmi died at the PGIM. She had received fatal burn injuries in the accident.
On November 4, Naseer and his two minor daughters, Prapti and Amanat, who were students of Sacred Heart School, Sector 26, died and were cremated in Chandigarh. The injured — Lakshmi, Aarti and Sudesh — were referred to the PGI.
The family was on way from Sonepat to Chandigarh after Diwali when fire broke out in the car near Mohri in Shahabad. Besides his mother, wife and two daughters, Naseer’s brother Sushil, Sushil’s wife Aarti and son Yash were also travelling in the car.
Sushil, in his statement to the police, had said, “As we reached Mohri, we saw smoke in the car due to sparking in the wiring and the car got locked. I managed to unlock the car. Passersby rushed us to a hospital.” Sources claimed the car caught fire due to a flammable chemical, which was the family was carrying after celebrating Diwali.
