Chandigarh, February 11

In view of the farmers’ “Dilli Chalo” protest, Section 144 of the CrPC has been imposed in city for 60 days. Traffic at city borders may get disrupted on February 12 and 13, said the police.

As per the District Magistrate’s (DM) orders, the ban has been imposed on the gathering/assembly of five or more people, taking out processions, demonstrations, march pasts on foot or with tractor-trailers and other vehicles, and carrying of any sticks, rods or weapons.

The police said the movement of traffic may get disrupted due to the protest call as there would be some restrictions at UT borders for two days.

The neighbouring states have also issued traffic advisories and the public may refer to the same for travel plans. The road users are advised to follow the route/diversion plan issued, if any, for their own convenience, added the police.

Meanwhile, the Opposition has criticised the BJP after the UT Administration imposed Section 144 in the city.

"Opposition parties are protesting peacefully against the fraud in the Chandigarh mayoral elections. The BJP has put pressure on the Administration and got Section 144 imposed in Chandigarh," alleged Prem Garg, former convener of AAP.

Congress councillor Gurpreet Singh Gabi alleged, "The ruling party got this Section imposed in the city to deter us from protesting."
