Sec 26 college, Panjab varsity campus win swimming meet
Sri Guru Gobind Singh (SGGS) College, Sector 26, and Panjab University Campus (PUC) teams won the Panjab University Inter-College Swimming Championship in men and women categories, respectively, in the campus swimming centre.
In the men’s event, the SGGS College swimmers scored 96 points. The swimmers bagged five medals in 50m freestyle event, followed by four in 100m, five medals in 200m, three each in 400m and 800m and seven in 1500m freestyle events. The side bagged one medal in the 200m backstroke event, followed by seven in the 50m breaststroke event. The SGGS team also won seven medals in the 100m breaststroke event and five in the 200m breaststroke event. The Sector 26 college swimmers won five medals in the 50m butterfly event, followed by three in 100m and seven medals in the 200m butterfly event. The 4x200 freestyle relay team of the college set a New Meet Record by bagging the gold in 8 minutes and 39:74 seconds (8.39:74s). The side beat the old record time of 8.46:36s.
Meanwhile, Goswami Ganesh Dutta Sanatan Dharma (GGDSD) College, Sector 32, bagged second position by scoring 80 points and Panjab University Campus team finished at the third position with an overall score of 71.
In the Panjab University Inter-College Swimming (Women) Championship, the host team of PUC bagged the overall trophy. The campus swimmers scored 69 points to win the first position. Guru Gobind Singh (GGS) College for Women, Sector 26, swimmers claimed the second position by scoring 51 points, while SGGS College, Sector-26, claimed the third position with a total of 33 points.
