Gurukul Global School win basketball title
Gurukul Global School won the Dev Raj Memorial Invitational Basketball Tournament by recording a convincing 72-44 win over New Public School, Sector 18.
In the final, Ujjwal scored the highest 18 points for the winners. Mohit of New Public School contributed 16 points. Shamrock School, Kaithal, claimed the third position by registering a 52-47 win over the PML SD School, Sector 32. Naman of Shamrock School scored 19 points and Gavi of the Sector 32 team contributed 15 points to the victory.
Sacred Heart girls win
In the girls' category, Sacred Heart School, Sector 26, won in the girls' category. In the final, Sector 26 team defeated New Public eves 54-39 as Samaya scored 21 points for the winning team. Tarannum got 13 points for the losing side. Government School, Nandgarh (Haryana) scored a 37-30 win over Saupin's School, Sector 31. Vanshika scored 11 points for the Nandgarh team and Vishakha scored 12 points for the Sector 32 team.
A total of 16 teams participated in the tournament. The best cagers were awarded a cash prize of Rs 1,500 and a trophy and ‘The Upcoming Cagers’ were awarded a cash prize of Rs 1,000 and a trophy.
Sarkaghat school win basketball meet
Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sarkaghat (Mandi), has won the Shanta H Singh Memorial Basketball Tournament organised by New Public School, Sector 18. The team defeated the hosts 62-45 to win the title. Divya helped the title winners to log win by contributing 16 points, while Tarannum contributed 19 points for the hosts. Sacred Heart School, Sector 26, claimed third position by recording a 56-44 win over Police DAV Public School, Amritsar. Tanmay alone contributed 31 points in the team’s win and Amanat (14 points) was the main scorer for the Amritsar team.
Meanwhile, Gurukul Global School, Mani Majra, won the Rao Jai Singh Memorial Basketball Tournament by defeating Shamrock Senior Secondary School, Kaithal. Sachin contributed 20 points in the team’s win as the side logged a 72-30 win. Ruder scored 10 for the visiting side. The hosts claimed the third position. Earlier in the semifinals, the Kaithal team defeated Police School 32-18 with the help of Naman (15 points). Yuvraj scored 10 points for the losing side. Gurukul Global posted a 69-45 win over the hosts. Ajju gathered 35 points for the winning side and Manan contributed 12 points for the hosts.
Shanvi (GMSSS Sarkaghat) and Sachin (Gurukul Global School) were awarded the Player of the Tournament award for boys’ and girls’ event, respectively, while Tarannum Begum and Manan, both from the host side, were awarded with most promising upcoming players’ award.
