Chandigarh, July 19

Students staged a protest after a 6th semester examination of the BA/BCom LLB course was cancelled by the Panjab University authorities. While the orders mentioned administrative reasons for taking this steps, the students alleged that the authorities cancelled the exam for covering their own mistake.

Sources said the examination of Interpretation of Statutes and Principles of Legislation (Common with P-VI (b) Inter Interpretation of Statutes and Principles of Legislation of 5th semester) of BA/BCom LLB was rescheduled for July 16. However, at one of the centres, the same examination was conducted on July 15. The matter came to the notice of the Panjab University authorities on July 18 and thereafter, the exam was cancelled.

As per the new notification, the examination has now been scheduled for July 23. However, the authorities claimed that they were ready to reschedule it further as per the convenience of the students, after summer vacations. “We have to follow the protocol. One of the centres mistakenly conducted the examination on July 15, as it was previously scheduled for the same date. Later, it was postponed to July 16, but the centre followed the previous scheduled. We have now decide to conduct the exam on July 23, but if students are not ready, then we can reschedule it as per their convenience, even after the summer vacation,” said a senior functionary of the university.

Meanwhile, late in the evening, the students claimed that the authorities had decided to conduct the examination after August 17. “After today’s protest and negotiations with the authorities, it has been concluded that the examination will be conducted in the offline mode. The authorities accepted that the new date of the examination will be after vacations on August 17, as it was comfortable to all students. The students, who will have medical reasons or their internship, will be given another chance without considering it reappear,” stated a statement.
