Residents protest auction of shamlat land
Mohali, September 4
Satnam Singh Dao, president of the Punjab Against Corruption, and residents of Chandpur village held a protest against the bidding of the shamlat land to be held on September 7 by the government to give the village land to a private organisation at cheap rates.
Led by Satnam Singh Dao, the villagers also met Sanyukt Kisan Morch leader Balbir Singh Rajewal and demanded steps to stop the process of handing over the village land to a private organisation at throwaway prices. He informed that 86 acres in Chandpur would be grabbed on the pretext of giving the same to the organisation for blind people as was done in Balongi village where land had been given to a gaushala.
He said the market value of the land was worth over Rs500 crore, which was allegedly being grabbed by leaders of the ruling party by setting up fake institutions and putting pressure on the panchayats and in connivance with panchayat members.
He warned the government if the auction of the village land was held, they would intensify their protest. — TNS
