Rationalise MC staff to cut expenses: Mayor
To reduce expenses, Mayor Kuldeep Kumar has urged Municipal Commissioner Amit Kumar to rationalise the staff of the MC.
In a letter to the Commissioner, the Mayor mentioned that UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria had presided over the MC General House meeting on November 23 and gave valuable suggestions on increasing the revenue and cutting unnecessary expenses.
“The Administrator advised the MC to increase own receipts by assessing the property tax of the last five years and had also suggested filling regular vacancies and stressed on stopping of engagement of employees on outsource basis in future. Since most of the funds are being spent in paying wages to them, the MC is not able to undertake development works. He directed the MC to rationalise the existing posts of each wing and the services of unnecessary employees should be retrenched in a phased manner,” said the Mayor.
Some stringent steps are required to be taken for the sake of good financial health of the MC, he said.
