Ranji Trophy: Nishunk restricts Delhi to 276, UT boys score 63/1
A six-wicket haul by Nishunk Birla helped Chandigarh restrict Delhi to 276 runs on the first day of the Ranji Trophy league match at Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 26. Despite Birla’s heroics, the visitors managed to get 276 on the score board, all thanks to a fine century by Yash Dhull.
Delhi skipper won the toss and elected to bat. Jagjit Singh Sandhu drew the first blood when he dismissed Anuj Rawat (4). Later in the innings, an 82-run partnership between Dhull and Sanat Sangwan helped the side recover. However, Birla was brought into the attack and he claimed his first wicket in the form of Sangwan (23) to reduce the visitors to 82/2.
In the very next over, Vishu claimed Delhi skipper Himmat Singh (0) to reduce the side further. However, Dhull once again managed to handle the pressure and raise a 96-run partnership with IPL famed Ayush Badoni (49), who missed his half-century when he fell prey to Birla.
Birla dismissed Kshitij Sharma (2) in the same spell, followed by the dismissal of Sumit Mathur (15) by Vishu as Delhi went on back foot with 213/6 on the board. Three runs later, Raj Angad Bawa took Dhull Yash (121 off 190 balls, with 21 boudnaries).
Meanwhile, Birla continued his wicket-taking spree and wrapped up tailenders — Siddhant (14), Shivank Vashisht (31) and Himanshu Chauhan (0) to restrict Delhi at 276 in 71.4 overs. Nishunk recorded 6/72, while Vishu took 2/100.
In reply, Chandigarh lads scored 63/1 as Arsalan Khan (0) lost his wicket before the draw of the stumps. Unbeaten Shivam Bhambri (42) and Manan Vohra (17) were playing on the crease.
