A Punjab cop, along with his friends, has been booked by the UT police for attacking a bouncer, leaving him with a severed thumb. He has been suspended.

According to the police, Raman Kumar, a policeman, along with six friends, visited a club at Centra Mall in Industrial Area, Phase I. During the early hours of Thursday, Raman reportedly had an argument with Birender Kumar (31), a bouncer at the club.

After the party, the accused allegedly asked Birender to accompany them to the basement of the mall. In the basement, Raman and his friends reportedly took out sharp weapons and sticks from an SUV and attacked the bouncer.

They fled the scene leaving the bouncer injured. The police were informed about the incident and a team rushed the injured to a private hospital.

Birender sustained severe injuries on the head, hands and other parts of his body. His thumb was severed in the assault. The assailants reportedly snatched his gold chain, mobile phone and cash. On a complaint of ASI Subhash Chand, the police have registered a case of attempt to murder at the Industrial Area police station.
