Punjab CM should take up Senate issue with Centre: MP, Dhindsa
Targeting the Central Government over delay in elections to Panjab University’s governing body, the Senate, Faridkot MP Sarabjeet Singh Khalsa and former Punjab minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa said that the Punjab Government should take up the matter with the Centre. Both were on the university campus in support of the protest being organised under the banner of ‘Panjab University Bachao Morcha’ outside the Vice-Chancellor’s office.
“Everyone, including the students, are protesting against the delay in elections, but the Central Government is not ready to pay heed to the demand. We ourselves were elected through a democratic process and we support the demand of the protesters,” Dhindsa said.
“The matter is not just about the university, but also concerns over 200 colleges affiliated to it. The BJP is not in support of a democratic structure and wants to get done away with the Senate. But there is no justification for dismantling the body,” Faridkot MP Khalsa said while interacting with mediapersons at the protest site.
It is important to note that students have been protesting outside the VC’s office in this regard after the tenure of the Senate ended on October 31.
