PU south campus plan gets heritage panel nod

The Chandigarh Heritage Conservation Committee (CHCC) today gave approval to the proposal of master plan of Panjab University and ‘Street for People’ in Sector 15.
The 23rd meeting of the CHCC was today held under the Chairmanship of UT Adviser Rajeev Verma.
During the meeting, the genesis of the CHCC, its constitution and mandate were apprised to the chairman by the chief architect which was followed by presentations on different projects.
Discussions were held on the management of the Capitol Complex and review of different projects, including the Martyrs Memorial. Apart from PU master plan, the proposal of ‘Street for People’ in Sector 15 under the Ministry of Home and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) scheme was also approved.
The Chairman appreciated the master plan of south campus of Panjab University for making a uniform plan keeping in view the historical significance of Panjab University. He gave directions for strict implementation of the guidelines of the Government of India and the planning management, while executing the projects.
Habitat Centre and a Business Centre in Sector 17 were among other items to be discussed in the meeting.
The Management Plan of the Capitol Complex, which include Holistic Development Plan of High Court, decision adopted during extended 45th session of World Heritage Committee (Riyadh-2023), expansion of building adjacent to security personnel building near Open Hand Monument; construction of one floor on existing lawyer chamber; iron grill fencing all around the perimeter of the Punjab and Haryana High Court building and segregation of court premises into low and high security zones; debris at Martyrs Memorial- Capitol Complex and provision of covered verandah in front of court room 1 of Chief Justice court. — TNS
