Protesting students burn effigies of Panjab varsity VC, chief security officer
Students protesting under the banner of ‘Panjab University Bachao Morcha’ today burnt the effigy of Vice-Chancellor Prof Renu Vig and Chief of University Security Vikram Singh at the Student Centre.
They were demanding quashing of FIR against 14 students who were booked for allegedly trying to disrupt Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann’s address during an event on the campus, besides seeking immediate elections to Senate, the university’s governing body.
The protesting students gathered raised slogans against the authorities before lighting the effigies. The authorities and local police were present in a good number to avoid any untoward incident.
On November 13, the protesters, while taking out a march in the campus, had diverted from their planned route towards the Law Auditorium where CM Mann was addressing a session at ‘Punjab Vision 2047’ conclave. The police had to use mild force against the protesters near the Student Centre parking and an FIR was registered on the complaint of the Chief of University Security against 14 students.
Threaten to block Gate No. 2 on Nov 26
The ‘Panjab University Bachao Morcha’ has announced to block the Gate No 2 of the university on November 26 if the authorities failed act on their two demands — quashing of FIR against 14 students and immediate conduct of elections to the Senate.
