A commemoration parade was organised at the Sector 17 police station ground today in the memory of police martyrs.

A two-minute silence was observed on the occasion. Central police organisations and the state police observe the day in the form of martyrdom day.

DGP Surendera Singh Yadav, along with other police officers, paid homage to their departed colleagues at the Martyrs Memorial site. Family members of slain cops were present on the occasion.

Officials said from September 1 last year to August 31, as many as 214 officers and personnel from paramilitary forces and police organisations died while performing their duties.

Police Commemoration Day was observed at the CRPF camp in Hallo Majra here today.

Dinesh Uniyal, Inspector General of the North-Western Sector, CRPF, highlighted the sacrifice of the 10 martyrs who laid down their lives on this day 65 years ago while combating an attack by the Chinese army at Hot Springs in Ladakh.

A two-minute silence was observed by all officers and personnel present on the occasion to pay homage to the departed souls.
