The police have arrested a Phagwara resident, Shonik Maria, for allegedly duping people to the tune of Rs 20 lakh on the pretext of setting up cold storage plants in different states.

The suspect was part of a gang involved in several incidents of fraud, the police said, adding Shonik’s father Mahesh Maria was also involved in the alleged crime.

A case under Sections 406, 420 and 120-B, IPC, has been registered at Phase-8 police station.
