Lt-Gen Daljit Singh, AVSM, VSM, PHS, DGAFMS & Sr Col Commandant, AMC, who was the chief guest at the function, lauded the efforts of the PGIMER and doctors. “We must strive hard for our motherland and honour the legacy of PGI’s founding fathers. It is crucial to embrace our own path in life, even if it is not perfect, rather than longing for another’s. The spirit of belonging to the nation is vital,” said Lt-Gen Singh. He added, “We must reject selfish and self-centred practices, understanding that a doctor must embody qualities beyond technical skills.”

He drew parallels between the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) and the PGIMER, emphasising the institute’s pivotal role in shaping healthcare professionals. He also commended the AFMS for their swift response and exemplary service in the toughest of the terrains. “In the face of extreme conditions, from frozen equipment to non-motorable roads, our medical personnel persevere, embodying resilience and compassion in every mission to the extent of making supreme sacrifices of their lives so that we live in peace,” stated Lt-Gen Singh as he narrated an emotional account of the Gallantry Awards 2024 held recently.
