Papri village elections rescheduled
Papri village of Mohali district became one of the many in the area where the gram panchayat elections were rescheduled.
The decision came after the Punjab and Haryana High Court, on Wednesday, stayed the poll process after receiving 275 petitions, stating that there had been irregularities and violations of the democratic norms during the course of the filing and scrutiny of the nomination papers.
Candidates for the posts of sarpanch and panch had approached the court after their nomination papers were rejected by the authorities concerned on several grounds.
Earlier, on October 6, the Punjab State Election Commission has also suspended the elections in Jagatpura Gram Panchayat of Mohali subdivision.
Mohali SDM-cum-Electoral Registration Officer had been directed to prepare a fresh voter list for Jagatpura, excluding the voters of Guru Nanak Colony, in accordance with the law.
