Panjab University board nod to Rs 868 crore budget
The Board of Finance (BoF), Panjab University, approved budget of Rs 868.46 crore for 2025-26 today. The budget estimate has envisaged expenditure of Rs 868.46 crore and income of Rs 383.69 crore.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Renu Vig presided over a BoF meeting, which was also attended by Registrar YP Verma and others.
As per the budget estimates, the university is expecting to earn revenue of Rs 383.69 crore during 2025-26, which is about Rs 85.67 crore more than 2023-24 fiscal year.
Of this amount, Rs 96 crore is expected through fees from partially self-financed courses, Rs 23 crore through CDOE (formerly USOL), Rs 167 crore through exam fee, Rs 26 crore from fee from university teaching departments, Rs 36 crore from registration/certificate/CET fee etc, Rs 12.8 crore from hostels, Rs 5.1 crore from sports fee (PUSC) and Rs 12.57 crore through other resources like interest, late admission fee, sale of admission forms.
An amount of Rs 388.84 crore is to be received from the University Grant Commission (UGC) and Rs 95.92 crore from the Punjab Government in 2025-26.
Meanwhile, the university has decided to review a recommendation made by a committee constituted by the vice-chancellor regarding the counting of past service for promotion of eight faculty members under the Career Advancement Scheme (CAS).
A circular was issued in 2019 inviting applications from faculty members requesting the consideration of their past service for promotions. The applicants were required to strictly adhere to the guidelines outlined in Regulation 10 of the UGC Regulations, 2010. However, during June 2014 meeting, it was decided to review these cases.
