2 youths run over by truck

Mohali: Two bike-borne youths were crushed to death under the wheels of a speeding truck on the airport road at around 2 am on Wednesday. They have been identified as Bariali residents Ramapreet Singh (21) and his friend Sher Bahadur (29). The bike caught fire and the truck driver fled the spot. On a statement of Kewal Singh, father of Ramanpreet Singh, the Balongi police have registered a case.

Former MLA’s bail bonds filed

Mohali: Former Amargarh MLA Jaswant Singh Gajjan Majra and Balwant Singh were produced by the Patiala jail authorities through video conferencing before a court. The bail bonds of the accused, Jaswant Singh, were filed today, too. The court fixed the next date of hearing for November 20. In May last year, The CBI raided several places linked to Jaswant in connection to a Rs 40 crore bank fraud probe. Prior to that, in September 2022 the ED conducted raids on several premises linked to him under a money laundering case.

Two held for arms smuggling

Panchkula: The Panchkula police arrested two persons for smuggling illegal weapons. The police said they received a tip-off regarding a man waiting for someone in a car near Sector 30 on Nalagarh Road in Pinjore who was suspected of carrying illegal weapons. A police team reached the spot and arrested the young man identified as Anmol of Vishwakarma Colony, Pinjore. They also recovered a 32 bore pistol from his pocket. On the basis of information given by Anmol, the police arrested Ankush Kumar of Chawla Colony Manakpur, Panchkula, on Wednesday.
