Owners of two Chandigarh clubs booked
Chandigarh: The owners of two clubs were arrrested after these were found open beyond the permissible time limit, thereby disobeying the orders of the District Magistrate. Cases were registered against Deepak Kumar, the owner of Culture, a club in Sector 26, and Manav Mehra, the owner of Mainland China, another club in Sector 26. They were arrested and later released on bail. TNS
Free Urdu classes
Chandigarh: The UT office of the Language Department of Punjab is organising free Urdu classes, which will be conducted in collaboration with GGDSD College, Sector 32. The course duration will be of six months, beginning January 5. At present, classes are held online. Once, new Covid-19 guidelines are released by the Administration, classes will be held at the college in the evening. Man succumbs to assault injuries
Chandigarh: A 25-year-old man, who was assaulted by an unknown person around 10 days ago, succumbed to his injuries. The police have registered a murder case against the unknown person at the Mauli Jagran police station. According to the police, the victim, Damanjeet Singh, a resident of Vikas Nagar, Mauli Jagran, was assaulted by an unknown person. He suffered head injuries in the incident. The police said the victim succumbed to his injuries on the intervening night of December 28 and 29. A case under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC has been registered. TNS
Youth nabbed with pistol
Chandigarh: The Operation Cell of the UT police has arrested a Nayagaon resident while possessing a country-made pistol and three live cartridges. The suspect, identified as Sagar Masih (23), was nabbed from Kaimbwala village. A case under the Arms Act has been registered against him. TNS
Golf meet to be held on Jan 10
Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Golf Association (CGA) will organise 15th CGA Junior/Sub-Junior Golf Championship at the Chandigarh Golf Club here on January 10. The championship will be conducted in all five categories – A (15-17 years), B (13-14 years), C (11-12 years), D (8-10 years) and E (5-7 years). While A, B & C categories will be playing 18 holes, D & E categories will only play 9-hole a day. Winners of the Junior Championship held in 2019 will also participate in the event. TNS
2 arrested with illicit liquor
Zirakpur: The police nabbed two suspects running an unlicensed pub, “PlanB”, and recovered 58 bottles of illicit liquor from them on Friday. The police also arrested a man with 4.5 kg of poppy powder. TNS
