The process of re-evaluation of an answersheet in Panjab University, which a student can avail of in order to get his/her marks scrutinised and re-checked, is available for most of the courses, but not for the students of PU’s Institute of Social Science Education and Research (ISSER).

The department has around 50 seats and offers an integrated five-year honours programme in social sciences (BA Hons+MA). The students pursuing their bachelors do not get an option to re-evaluate their answersheets.

“While the students of postgraduate courses and normal undergraduate courses have option for re-evaluation, we do not. In other honours courses in the university, the students are shown the answersheets, but we do not get that option as well. The university authorities must take a step in this regard,” said a student of the ISSER.

According to officials in the university, in honours school system the answersheets are checked by the teachers of the department itself, like it happens in case of house tests. “But the issue here is that since the ISSER does not have regular faculty solely for the department, the answersheets go to the core departments of social sciences on the campus. That is why those teachers are unable to show the answersheets to the students,” said a senior university official.

“The option of re-evaluation was stopped for honours school system years ago because of the delays in the procedure. But then a provision to show the answersheet to the student was introduced. To ensure transparency according to the fundamentals of the university, either re-evaluation should be introduced for ISSER students or they should be shown the answersheets,” said Prof Rajat Sandhir from university’s Physics Department.
