Notices issued to 15 clubs for violating noise pollution rules

The Excise and Taxation Department has issued show-cause notices to 15 clubs, including nine repeat offenders, for violating noise pollution norms. The UT police had requested action against these establishments recently.

The officials concerned stated The Vault and Kukuna Club in Sector 7 along with De’Orra, Hard Rock Café, Kal Ghoda, Bargain N Booze, Boulevard, Ministry of Bar Exchange, and Culture in Sector 26 were found repeatedly violating noise pollution regulations. The UT SSP has withdrawn their NOC/consent for operating licences.

The Excise and Taxation Department has summoned these clubs to appear before the Collector (Excise) on December 16 to explain why their licences should not be cancelled or suspended under Section 36 (c) of the Punjab Excise Act, 1914.

Similar notices have also been issued to Prankster F&B Campus, Qzio, Brew Estate and Zeek, located in Sector 26, along with Wild Thyme of Sector 7. They have been asked to appear before the Collector (Excise) on December 17.

The Residents Welfare Association Sector 7 had approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court alleging violations of various norms by clubs. Recently, the HC had asked UT Excise Department to explain as to why excise licences of clubs were not cancelled for repeated violations.

Local residents at receiving end

Residents of Sector 7 have repeatedly raised the issue of loud music played in night clubs at night with the authorities concerned. “The loud music played late at night inconveniences local residents, especially the elderly,” said a local resident.
