After the Union Health Ministry clarified that it is not mandatory for a person driving and travelling alone in a car to wear a mask, the UT directed the traffic police not to issue a challan if a person is driving alone without wearing a mask.

At present, the traffic police were issuing a challan for not wearing a mask in the car even if someone was alone.

SSP (Traffic) Manoj Kumar Meena said the traffic police would not stop people riding or travelling alone in a car for not wearing a mask.

The Chandigarh Congress also tweeted to UT Adviser Manor Parida today, requesting that the decision should be implemented in Chandigarh also. The Adviser replied back on Twitter that the police had been given instructions in this regard.

The UT police had initiated a challaning drive against people who were found not wearing masks at public places and while riding vehicles. Since June 23, a total of 9,145 challans have been issued for not wearing a mask at public places and inside cars. — TNS
