Nishant Yadav new DC of Chandigarh
Chandigarh: Nishant Kumar Yadav, a 2013-batch IAS officer, will be the new Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Chandigarh. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the deputation of Yadav from the Haryana cadre to the AGMUT cadre for three years or until further orders, whichever is earlier. He is presently the Gurugram DC. TNS
Murder convict gets life term
Mohali: A local court on Thursday sentenced a Kumbhra man, Munish Prabhakar, to life imprisonment in a 2015 murder case of a vendor in Kumbhra. Prabhakar had shot dead Harpreet Singh after an altercation. On the statement of the victim’s father Veer Singh, a case of murder and under the Arms Act was registered at the Phase 8 police station. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 60,000 on the convict. He was also awarded three years of imprisonment for the offences under the Arms Act. TNS
RBU signs pact for AI training
Mohali: Rayat Bahra University has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Qvolv Private Limited and Focalyst Private Limited. Three booked for snatching phone
Chandigarh: Three unidentified persons have been booked by the police in a snatching case. In a complaint to the police, Washington, a resident of Khuda Jassu village, stated that three persons snatched his mobile phone near Khuda Lahora. A case has been registered at the Sarangpur police station. The police have initiated an investigation into it. TNS

City archers win laurels
Chandigarh: Jiana Kumar of Sacred Heart Convent School here won the gold at the 40th CBSE National Archery Championship 2024-25 held in Delhi. She claimed the top position in the under-14 recurve category. Ajinkya Jatwani of St John’s High School won bronze in the under-14 recurve event. Meanwhile, Angad Singh Kang of YPS, Mohali, bagged a gold and a bronze at the Punjab Inter-district School Games organised in Patiala. Ananya bags bronze
Mohali: Local weightlifter, Ananya added another to her camp by winning the bronze medal in the Indian Weightlifting Federation Championship in Himachal Pradesh. Ananya bagged the bronze by lifting a total weight of 155 kg including. Earlier, this year, she won a gold and a silver in the youth and junior categories, respectively, during the Chandigarh State Weightlifting Championship at the Sector 42 Sports Complex. TNS
