Mullanpur farmers fume over erratic power supply, protest
Mohali, June 30
Hundreds of farmers, including village sarpanches, from the Mullanpur area staged a protest demonstration against the PSPCL officials at the Majra power grid here today for the erratic power supply in the paddy sowing season.
Villagers said the grid was set up on the village land but electricity was not being provided to them. The Mullanpur police were stationed near the grid to prevent any vandalism.
In Singha Devi village, residents came out on roads to protest against the state government, the PSPCL and the water department for frequent outages.
The resident said they were facing acute shortage of electricity for the last two weeks.
Residents, especially women, said due to power outages, water supply was also disrupted.
The water tanker operators are overcharging people and supplying water arbitrarily, they added.
Residents said the transformers and wires installed in the area were unable to take the increasing load.
