The district administration is all set to host its first-ever Saras Mela in Sector 88 (behind Manav Mangal Smart School) from October 18 to 27. Over 600 artisans with 300 stalls of various states will exhibit their skills and culture at the mela.

Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain visited the site to review the ongoing arrangements for the mela today. She said the district had got the opportunity to host the festival for the first time since its inception in 2006.

The inaugural evening will feature a performance by Punjabi singer Ranjit Bawa. Shivjot will perform on October 19, while Punjabi singers Pari Pandher, Basant Kaur and Savitaj Brar will perform on October 20, in addition to a fashion show and a comedy night by Jaspreet Singh and Ashish Solanki on October 21. Lakhwinder Wadali will grace the event on October 22. Bhangra and giddha by university teams will be presented on October 23. Punjabi singer Joban Sandhu will perform on October 24, while various artists would perform on October 25. Kulwinder Billa will perform on October 27 and on the last night of the mela (October 27) Gippy Grewal will perform.

Dances, puppet dance, ‘bazigars’, ‘kachi ghodi’, etc. are some of the events that people can witness during the fair. Theme-based programmes will be conducted every day to spread awareness about social evils. Artists from the Northern Zone Cultural Centre will entertain people with folk dances from different states, including Bihu of Assam, Kalbelia of Rajasthan, Holi and Mayur dances of UP and various dances of Haryana and Punjab.
