Mohali reports one more COVID fatality, toll up to 13

33 fresh cases surface; RTA office sealed and sanitised

Mohali has reported one more Covid-19 fatality, taking the death toll due to the deadly virus in the district to 13.

Civil Surgeon Dr Manjit Singh said that 52-year-old man from Sector 66, Mohali, had been suffering from diabetes and was admitted to the Indus International Hospital on July 21.

He further said that samples were taken after his death and his report came out Covid-19 positive on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the district health authorities have sealed the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) office in the District Administrative Complex, Mohali, after one of its employees, a resident of Sector 32, Chandigarh, tested positive for the coronavirus.

Sukhwinder Kumar said the Regional Transport office had been sealed and sanitised.

He said the staff had been sent to hospital for sampling and if their reports turn out to be negative then the office would open on Monday.

Meanwhile, 33 new cases have been reported in the district. These include 20-year-old man from Kharar, 60-year-old man of Phase 3B1, 52-year-old man from Sector 66, 48-year-old man from Kishanpura in Derabassi, two women aged 20 and 40 and a 17-year-old boy from Mundi Kharar, 23-year-old man and 40-year-old woman of LIC Colony, Kharar, 51-year-old woman from Malakpur and 30-year-old man from Landran Road, Kharar.

The list further includes 24-year-old man and 20-year-old woman from Sector 66, 6-year-old girl, a 14-year-old boy and 47-year-old man of Phase 3B2, 36-year-old man from Phase 10, 57-year-old woman of Phase 5, 52-year-old man from Sector 68, 12-year-old boy of Phase 8, 35-year-old man and 14-year-old girl from Peer Muchalla, Zirakpur, 35-year-old woman of Mohan Nagar, Derabassi, two women aged 64 and 42 and a 64-year-old man and 8-year-old boy of Gulmohar Extension, Derabassi, 39-year-old man and 19-year-old boy from Jawaharpur, 28-year-old man from Phase 3A and two men aged 22 and 38 and a 14-year-old boy from SBP Homes, Sector 126.

The health authorities further said 20 patients had been cured of the virus and discharged from hospital. These include 49-year-old man of Nayagaon, 28-year-old man of Phase 1, three women aged 42, 32 and 50 and a 6-year-old girl from Kharar, 29-year-old man and 38-year-old woman of Phase 3B1, 16-year-old boy from Peer Muchalla, 60-year-old woman and 4-year-old boy from Mohali, 25-year-old man from Kharar, 27-year-old man from Mubarikpur, two men aged 23 and 62 from Baltana, 52-year-old man of Badala, 59-year-old man of Phase 4, 22-year-old woman from Kumbra, 35-year-old woman of Sector 97 and 50-year-man from Sector 88.

The district has so far reported 643 positive cases, out of which 399 have been cured and discharged from hospital, while 13 have died of the virus. The number of active cases stands at 231.
