Mohali: Body kept on Airport Road, victim’s kin protest for 2nd day
The Airport Road remained partially blocked for the second day running as Kumbhra residents, along with the parents of a 17-year-old stabbing victim, continued to protest alongside the body, which is kept in the middle of the road. The body remained on the road overnight.
Daman Singh, 17, was stabbed to death, while Dilpreet Singh, 16, was grievously injured by four miscreants over an issue of cycle parking at Kumbhra village here on Wednesday evening. The suspects were identified and had reportedly fled to UP after the incident. The Kumbhra market remained closed today as well as irate village residents demanded the arrest of the suspects.
MLA Kulwant Singh and SSP Deepak Pareek, who visited the spot today, had only condolences to offer as angry family members questioned them over the delay in arrest of the suspects and deteriorating law and order in the city.
A case was registered in this regard, the police said. Three persons, including Parveen, the owner of the PG accommodation where the suspects were putting up, had already been detained, the police said.
Leaders of the Congress, including LoP Partap Singh Bajwa, and BJP today offered their support to the victim’s family members. They appealed to the protesters not to make ‘irresponsible’ statements about migrants workers. The incident has kicked up a locals versus migrant workers row. The protesters alleged that this was the second such incident when migrant workers attacked village residents. The victim is survived by his parents and two sisters.
