Mayor Kuldeep Kumar today called a meeting of heads of all departments of the Municipal Corporation (MC) to discuss the scope of revenue generation to prevent a financial crisis. The meeting was also attended by Amit Kumar, MC Commissioner. It discussed various issues and measures to generate more revenue for the MC.

The Mayor directed the HODs to explore sources of income and start the process of recovering arrears at the earliest. He told the officers to recover the water bill arrears and penalise defaulters as per the rules. Faulty meters should be detected and leakages plugged immediately, he added.

On the issue of property tax, the Mayor asked the officers concerned to identify the defaulters and they be served recovery notices immediately.

The Mayor said steps to increase revenue be chalked out, including curtailing solid waste management, and ideas be gathered from municipalities of other states, where self-sustainable steps were being taken. A list of vacant properties be prepared so that these may be rented out.

Recovery from mobile tower fee defaulters be made at the earliest and a revenue model be chalked out to generate income from display advertisements. The MC can get a handsome revenue from gyms in community centres throughout the city, he added.
