Mauli Jagran woman dies of virus, Chandigarh toll rises to 13

61-yr-old tests +ve post-death at Panchkula hospital; city reports 29 new cases

The city today reported its 13th death due to Covid and 29 fresh cases, taking the UT tally to 780.

According to the media bulletin issued by the UT Administration, a 61-year-old woman of Vikas Nagar in Mauli Jagran died at Alchemist Hospital in Panchkula. She was a diabetic and also had hypertension and hypothyroidism. Her test reports were received after her death.

Among the fresh cases, 16 are contacts of patients. They include a nine-year-old boy of Mauli Jagran, a 71-year-old woman of Sector 9, two men, aged 60 and 32, of a family in Sector 45, a 29-year-old youth of Sector 29 and a 59-year-old man of Sector 42.

A 56-year-old woman of Sector 11, a contact of a positive case from Uttar Pradesh, also contracted the infections. Five members of a family residing on the PGI campus were also found infected. They are contacts of a positive case, who had returned from Bengaluru.

A 37-year-old man of Sector 30, a 70-year-old man of Mani Majra and a 21-year-old woman of Ram Darbar, who too had tested positive for Covid, are community contacts of patients.

A 57-year-old man of Sector 20 reportedly contracted the virus from a positive case of Panchkula. Among the fresh patients are two female employees of Government Medical College and Hospital in Sector 32. One of them is 30 years old and a resident of Sector 32 while the other is 25 years old and lives at Ram Darbar. The latter has a travel history to Faridkot.

Besides, nine men, aged 51(Sector 43), 55 (Sector 28), 56 (Dhanas), 49 (Sector 41), 30 (Badheri), 65 (Sector 37), 44 (Sector 47), 38 (Sector 19) and 42 (Sector 21), also tested positive for the virus. Besides, a 24-year-old woman of Sector 18 was diagnosed with Covid. Their source of infection is not known.

Eight discharged

Eight persons were discharged from the hospital post-recovery. The city now has 241 active cases. UT Health Secretary Arun Kumar Gupta said, “Our recovery rate has decreased due to more cases having been reported in the last 15 days. It used to be the best about 15 days ago. It should again improve in the next 15 days.”
