A resident of Sector 11 was duped of Rs 2.5 lakh by scammers, posing as the CEO of the company he was employed at. The complainant, Varun, lost the money after he purchased apple store gift cards and sent them to the unidentified persons. Varun said he worked for a company, Dynata, as a project manager and he had never conversed with the company’s leadership via phone until recently, when he received a text message from a man claiming to be the CEO of his company, Matt Gaffney.

He said the miscreant asked him to buy a few apple store codes for the company’s Indian clients and assured to refund him the money. Varun said he bought apple gift cards worth Rs 3.3 lakh, but his purchase of a gift card worth Rs 1 lakh was rejected by Amazon, sensing a fraud. The police registered a case under various sections of the BNS.
