Man held with 151 dummy guns in Kharar
Mohali: The police have nabbed a person and seized 151 dummy guns from him in Kharar. He has been identified as Taalim, a resident of Namdev Bhawan in Kharar. Lakhwinder Singh, investigating officer, said on a tip-off that a person was supplying dummy guns to snatchers, they set up a barricade at Kharar to nab the suspect. During his search, they seized 151 dummy guns from him. During interrogation, he said he used to supply these to snatchers. A case under Sections 30, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act has been registered at the Kharar police station. The suspect was later released on bail. TNS
Couple held with 501-gm heroin
Ambala: The CIA-2 unit of the Ambala police arrested a couple and seized 501 gm of heroin from their possession at Ambala Cantonment on Wednesday evening. The suspects have been identified as Akbar and Kanchan of Ambala Cantonment. Acting on a tip-off that the suspects smuggled heroin and were on their way in a car, the CIA-2 unit set up a naka near Football Chowk at Ambala Cantonment and seized the heroin. Last date extended
Chandigarh: he Centre for IAS and Other Competitive Examinations, Panjab University, has extended the last date for submission of application form for Civil Services (Preliminary) course to January 28. The classes for this course will commence from February 2. TNS
Film-making competition
Chandigarh: ‘Interstellar’, the science club of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, organised an inter-college short film making competition on the theme “Look around you, can you find science”. Anjali and Nikita bagged first and second prize, respectively, in the competition. Rooppreet Kaur and Mohd Abdulla claimed a joint position while Vaishvani won the consolation prize in the competition. TNS

Chandigarh: A six-day online faculty development programme on “Advances in pharmaceutical research” concluded at Aryans College of Pharmacy. After completion, a valedictory programme was attended by Dr Indu Pal Kaur, chairperson, University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), Panjab University, and Dr Balwinder Singh, Director, College Development Council (CDC), MRSPTU. Dr Anshu Kataria, chairman, Aryans Group, honoured both resource persons on the occasion. Admission open for PU courses
Chandigarh: Panjab University (PU) has invited applications for various certificate courses offered by the Interdisciplinary Centre for Swami Vivekananda Studies. A PU spokesperson informed that applications for the January to June 2022 session of certificate course in yoga and meditation; certificate course in elementary Sanskrit and the Bhagavad Gita; and certificate course in ancient Indian wisdom can be submitted by January 31. Century Cricket Academy log win
Mohali: Century Cricket Academy defeated YJR Cricket Academy by 109 runs in the league match of the 3rd North Zone Panna Lal Memorial U-23 Cricket Tournament. Batting first, Century Cricket Academy posted 284/4 in the allotted 40 overs. Opener Anshul scored a brilliant 125 off 120 balls with 11 boundaries and three sixes, while Surya Narayan Yadav scored 62 runs. Nikhil, Girish and Ivraj claimed one wicket each for the bowling side. In reply, YJR Cricket Academy was bundled all out 175 runs in 38.3 overs. Youvraj Rai (54), Hardik Chowdhry (43), Jashanjot Singh (25) and Ansh (17) were the main scorers for the side. Mohali: Top seed Daksh Kapoor outplayed Ruhan Komandur in straight sets (6-0, 6-1), while Punjab’s Sumukh Marya defeated Anav Grover (6-4, 6-0), to set up boys’ U-14 title clash in the ongoing Roots AITA CS7 National Ranking Championship. In the boys’ U-16 semis, Chandigarh’s Akshat Dhull defeated Punjab’s Sumukh Marya (6-0, 6-2). Sixth seed Daksh Kapoor also registered an easy (6-2, 6-2) win over Aryan Jolly. Meanwhile, in the girls’ U-14 quarterfinals, top seed Shrawasti Kundilya defeated fifth seed Ajenika Puri (6-1, 6-2). Mannat Awasthi faced a tough resistance from Vanshika Yadav before registering a (6-0, 3-6, 7-6(7)) victory. Third seed Priyanshi Katial defeated Ira Chadha (6-2, 6-3) and sixth seed Tamanna Walia ousted second seed Saravnoor Kaur (6-2, 7-6(5)). Haryana’s Jasmine Kaur stunned top seed Kanak Shekhawat (6-1, 6-2) to march ahead in the girls’ U-16 semis.
