Man acquitted in 3-yr-old rape case

Special Judge, Fast Track Court, Chandigarh, has acquitted 22-year-old Manjot Bawa of Malerkotla, who had been booked in a rape case three years ago. The police had registered the case on August 3, 2021.

The complainant alleged that she came in contact with the accused through Instagram. Thereafter, they became friends and started meeting each other and entered a relationship. She claimed that the accused made false promises to marry her and often took her photos and made videos. She further alleged that the accused made forcible physical relations with her and started blackmailing her also by saying that he was possessing her obscene photos and videos. Later, he also started demanding money from her.

She alleged that that accused and his friends came to her house and tried to rape her. They beat her mother as well as brother. She further said the accused made a false Instagram account of her and uploaded her obscene photos and videos there.

During the investigation, the accused was arrested. Counsel of the accused SS Rana argued that the accused had been falsely implicated in the case. The complainant has also not supported the case of the prosecution. There was no other evidence which could support the case of the prosecution. After hearing the arguments the accused was acquitted.
