Chandigarh, June 16
How a line drawn through a country where multiple faith coexisted peacefully destroyed the harmony and peace makes for the theme for the Department of Indian Theatre, Panjab University (PU), annual Production of Play ‘Laal Lakeer’. Written by Dinesh Nair,
Designed and directed by Dr Navdeep Kaur, the play opened on Thursday.
“It’s after two years that we could stage our play, and I wanted a fresh story. I got in touch with Dinesh Nair from Bhopal to write a story that brings out the pain of the Partition since the Production of Play is focused to commemorate 75 years of India’s Independence,” shared Dr Navdeep Kaur, chairperson, Department of Indian Theatre, PU.
If set design and costumes reflects the period of 1947, Dr Navdeep shares how transporting students back to the times was the biggest challenge. While the plot moves ahead in the backdrop of a love story, a ‘faqir’ forewarns the grim times ahead.
