Dilpreet Singh (16), one of the two youths who was stabbed by a group of six youths at Kumbhra village on November 13, was cremated amidst heavy police presence here today. Local leaders of all major political parties were present. Close to 300 police officials, led by senior officials, were present in the area to monitor the law and order situation. Tension had prevailed in the village as there was anger amongst residents against migrant workers.

The administration officials said nearly Rs 10 lakh were given to Dilpreet’s family as compensation under various heads. While the deceased Damanpreet's kin received a Rs 2 lakh compensation, another Rs 2 lakh will be given to them after due procedure.

Dilpreet succumbed to his injuries at the PGI yesterday. The body was handed over to the kin after a post-mortem examination.

Kumbhra resident Damanpreet Singh was stabbed to death, while Dilpreet was seriously injured in an attack by migrant youths in Kumbhra on November 13. The fight started over a minor provocation as one of the accused, Akash, was hit by three youths who were on a bicycle. The trio called Damanpreet and Dilpreet for help, and a verbal altercation ensued. Akash left the place and returned later with other accomplices. The duo was then stabbed with sharp weapons.
