Kharar railway station road unsafe
Mohali, March 7
Reaching Kharar railway station has become an arduous task. It is highly unsafe, too. The last 1-km stretch of the road is narrow and riddled with potholes. Public transport is close to non-existent in the area. It gets worse at night as the streetlights have remained defunct for a long time.
The worst part of the journey is a liquor vend near the railway station. Visitors said there was no police patrol on this stretch. “It seems the administration and the police have abandoned this post,” complained a group of women reaching here around 9 pm.
Visitors complained that the parking lot remains shrouded in darkness after sunset and that police personnel at the railway station are nowhere to be seen during the day or night.
The liquor vending near the railway station has become a source of nuisance. Residents urged the police to increase the police patrol on the Kharar railway station-Padiala road.
The Kharar railway station, hometown of Punjab Minister for Tourism and Cultural Affairs Anmol Gagan Mann, is a halt point for over three major trains, including a Jan Shatabdi early in the morning. Police officials said patrolling would be increased on this stretch.
A nightmare
Every time my daughter comes from Amritsar, I make sure to pick her up from the railway station as the area is unsafe. Not just women, men circumspect before stepping foot in this area at night.” — A resident
