Mohali: The CIA staff of the Mohali police arrested an alleged liquor smuggler, Anil Kumar, near Kharar on Thursday and seized 15 cartons of illicit liquor from him. The suspect, who was booked under the Excise Act at the Kharar City police station, was produced in a court, which sent him to police custody. The police said the 27-year-old used to sell liquor near Chandigarh, Ropar, Nangal city and nearby areas. TNS

MLAs nominated to PU Senate

Chandigarh: The Punjab Vidhan Sabha has authorised two of its members to serve as members of the Panjab University Senate. The speaker nominated Harpartap Singh Ajnala and Dalvir Singh Goldi for the term from November 1, 2020, to October 31, 2024, as ordinary fellows. The four-year term of the previous Senate ended on October 31 last year. The Senate elections that were scheduled for August last year were postponed twice by Vice-Chancellor Raj Kumar due to the pandemic. TNS

Women’s Day celebrated

Chandigarh: Week-long celebrations to commemorate Women’s Day were held at Government Senior Secondary School, Mauli Jagran village.
