Congress candidate for the Kalka Assembly seat Pardeep Chaudhary today questioned law and order in the state in the wake of the yesterday’s firing incident that left a history-sheeter grievously injured.

Chaudhary said the Chief Minister was talking in an irresponsible way.

He said, “The law and order in our area is a joke. While the state government has failed to elaborate on the steps being taken to catch the assailants, it was in a hurry to dig out the history of the injured youth.”

Chaudhary, who had visited Goldy, the injured, at the PGI, Chandigarh, after he had been shot in the chest, said the court would decide about the pending cases against him. “Bullets are being fired openly and they are quick to search the injured individual’s history. In this way, they are justifying the attack. People are openly roaming around with weapons. There is no check on it.”

Responding to a query on the firing incident, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, who was in Kalka to address a ‘Jan Ashirwad’ rally in support of BJP candidate Shakti Rani Sharma, had yesterday stated that the person who was shot at had numerous police cases registered against him. “He is a gangster. He is wanted in Punjab as well. But it is unfortunate that Congress leaders are giving him protection and keeping such criminals with them.”

Chaudhary, meanwhile, visited areas of the Doon area and Kalka city. He claimed that people in Kalka were not getting drinking water supply for even 10 minutes a day. “Many people have lost their lives due to stray animals, but the BJP government did nothing for relief during its tenure,” he said.

The Congress candidate said the condition of roads was bad. “They have their own contractors. They are building roads of poor quality. Youths are not given employment. In the BJP rule, drug addiction has spread so much that people’s families have been ruined,” he alleged.

Chaudhary said the government was trying to spoil the peaceful election of Kalka. “Many councillors and big leaders of the BJP have joined the Congress. The election has slipped out of their hands,” he added.
