Jaiveer, Rohith in command in chess championship
Chandigarh, July 18
Jaiveer Mahendru of Maharashtra and Rohith S of Tamil Nadu claimed top two positions by scoring five points each, after Round 5 of the open category, during the 34th National U-17 Open and Girls Chess Championship, at Panjab University Gymnasium Hall.
The duo is closely followed by Arpit S Bijoy of Kerala, Koustav Dash of Odisha, Nandish VS of Tamil Nadu, Atiksh Thakur of Himachal Pradesh, Sriram Adarsh Uppala of Telanagana and Arul Prakash N of Tamil Nadu, as they scored 4½ each.
Trailing by scoring four points each were Jval Saurin Patel (Gujarat), Shubh Kapur (Delhi), Vignesh Advaith Vemula (Telangana), Swarna Nihal (Andhra Pradesh), Nimay Agrawal (Haryana), Swastik Singhal (Chandigarh), Vedant Garg (Chandigarh), Atrinjay Saha (West Bengal), Shadhursshaan R ( Tamil Nadu), Arnav Mahesh Koli (Maharashtra), Abhash Roimya Saikia (Assam), Arshpreet Singh (Haryana), Chaudhari Ashish (Maharashtra), Jihan Tejas Shah (Gujarat), Sundram Kumar (Delhi), Gokul Krishna S (Tamil Nadu), Borkhetariya Devarsh M (Gujarat), Alluri Bhaskara Ratna Shanmukha Reddy (Andhra Pradesh), Goutham Ramesh (Tamil Nadu), Yohan Yadav Tarala (Telangana) and Mrithyunjay Mahadevan (Tamil Nadu).
Narahari leads
Narahari Geethika Hasini of Telangana ended up being the sole leader in girls’ U-17 category by scoring five points. She is closely followed by Kale Shruti of Maharashtra and Sherali Pattnaik of Uttarakhand with four and half points each. This championship is hosted by Chandigarh Chess Association and a total of 325 players are participating.
