Independent wave hits Panjab University: Anurag Dalal PUCSC president
Creating history, Anurag Dalal, a 26-year-old research scholar and Independent candidate, has won the Panjab University Campus Student Council (PUCSC) presidential election. Dalal, who formed the Democratic Students’ Front (DSF) just days before the polling, secured 3,433 votes, defeating his nearest contender Prince Chaudhary of Chhatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti (CYSS) by a margin of 303 votes.
Notably, Dalal rebelled from the National Students Union of India (NSUI) and was backed by seasoned politicians. NSUI, which was expected to be a strong contender, trailed to the sixth position, with its candidate Rahul Nain securing only 501 votes.
The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad’s (ABVP) Arpita Malik performed better than NSUI, ending third with 1,114 votes. The election saw a significant turnout, with Dalal winning the mandate to prioritise students’ welfare.
Other winners included Archit Garg of NSUI for the Vice President seat, who won by bagging 3,631 votes, defeating his nearest rival candidate Sath’s Karanpreet Singh with a margin of 1,035 votes; Vineet Yadav of INSO (3,298 votes) for the Secretary post, and Jasvinder Rana of ABVP (3,489) for the Joint Secretary position.
