Karwa Chauth, the festival of married women, was celebrated with fervour in the tricity, comprising Chandigarh, Mohali, and Panchkula, on Sunday. The day lasted with women from all walks of life observing fast, praying for the long life of their husbands.

Traditionally, a married woman eats Sargi before the dawn. For a woman observing a fast, the day proceeds with going without food and water. Once the long wait for the moon ends in the evening, women gather to offer prayers at a temple or a social point with their thalis, eager to end the fast. They eat only after offering prayers to the moon.
