Chhath, a Hindu festival, which is celebrated mainly in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, was celebrated with fervour in Chandigarh and Punjab.

The four-day festival is dedicated to the worship of the sun god and involves fasting, holy bathing and prayers.

Chhath Puja saw hundreds throng Sector 43 in Chandigarh to perform the evening puja, offering prayers to the setting sun, similar was the sight on Friday morning, the fourth day of the festival that marked its conclusion.

Many hold this ritual as the most significant day of the elaborate festival, which is dedicated to worshiping the Sun god for health, prosperity and the fulfilment of wishes.

Moments of the Chhath Puja, which bears immense cultural and religious significance by the Purvanchali community, were captured by Tribune photographer Ravi Kumar in Chandigarh.
