Mohali, March 1
Confusion prevailed among senior citizens as they had to wait for over 40 minutes for getting the vaccine at the Mohali Civil Hospital.
Some of them were seen waiting outside the two halls for the vaccination. They were cautious of not breaking the social distancing norms as a large number of Punjab policemen had visited the hospital for the jab.
Kin of the elderly were time and again being told to wait by the health authorities and no one was guiding the senior citizens, who were waiting.
They were taken inside the hall for the vaccination soon after Principal Secretary Hussan Lal arrived at the hospital to see the arrangements. Lal said lack of information and awareness about the new location in the hospital had caused confusion among visitors. He said things would be streamlined in a day or two.
Lal said at least 245 people — healthcare workers, frontline workers, senior citizens and people aged between 45 and 59 with comorbidities — were vaccinated till 12.30 pm.
Deputy Commissioner Girish Dayalan said 79 senior citizens and four persons with comorbidities were administered the vaccine at the Phase 6 Civil Hospital.
Meanwhile, 60 senior citizens, including Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh’s wife Preneet Kaur, an MP, got the jab at Fortis Hospital.
