Chandigarh, June 17

The Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) demolished encroachment on public land and fresh unauthorised constructions in four dwelling units at Ram Darbar here today.

In three cases, there were encroachments on public land while in one case, an additional storey was constructed. The CHB is computing the cost of demolitions, which will be recovered from the allottees. In case of non-payment of the demolition cost, the allotments are liable to be cancelled.

To ensure effective action against fresh illegal, unauthorised constructions, the CHB is adopting the zero-tolerance policy. The enforcement squad of the CHB is making daily inspections in all sectors to identify fresh violations/alterations and effective actions are taken in each case.

On-the-spot challans are being issued by the squad with a direction to immediately stop further construction and remove the illegal construction. However, if the further construction is not stopped, the demolition is carried out and the costs are recovered from the allottee.
