Chandigarh’s Arjun Singh Bhatia topped the round by overpowering overnight leader Arin Ahuja, during the Round 1 match-play of the 123rd All India Indian Golf Union (IGU) Amateur Golf Championship, at the Chandigarh Golf Club.

The youngest golfers of the field, Jaibir Singh Kang, continued his impressive run by defeating 31st ranked Maharashtra’s Vibhu Tyagi. Kang will now face Anshul Mishra of West Bengal in the next round.

Fourth ranked Ayaan Gupta, another local contender, overpowered 29th ranked Siddharth Paruthi of Karnataka, and fifth ranked Aditya Gupta, the seniormost golfer at the event, defeated local challenger Shaurya Sharma.

The pre-quarterfinals will be played on Friday on a 36-hole stroke play. Seven players from Chandigarh had qualified for the final round.
