Husband, 2 others awarded life term for woman’s murder

A local court has sentenced three persons, including the husband of the victim, to undergo life imprisonment in a six-year-old murder case of a woman.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 each on convicts, identified as Vijay Kumar, the woman’s husband, his brother Bunty and mother Parkasho, all residents of Sector 52.

The police had registered the case on September 30, 2018, under Sections 304-B, 302 and 120-B of the IPC at the Sector 36 police station after a woman committed suicide in Sector 52, Pakki Colony.

The case was lodge following a complaint of Bablu, the victim’s brother. Bablu stated that his sister was married to Vijay Kumar on November 16, 2011. He alleged that immediately after the marriage, her in-laws started ill-treating her and thrashed her while demanding more dowry.

The complainant stated that Vijay Kumar, Bunty, Parkasho and the victim’s father-in-law Prem Chand did not mend their ways and continued harassing her while seeking a motorcycle and a car. They also turned his sister out of her matrimonial house on a number of occasions.

They again raised the demand of motorcycle in 2018. However, he expressed his inability. Thereafter, they started committing more atrocities on his sister and on September 29, 2018, he came to know that his sister had committed suicide by strangulation.

The police registered the case following the complaint and got a post-mortem of the body conducted. On the basis of its report, Section 302 of the IPC was added to the case.

The counsel for the accused claimed that they were falsely implicated in the case.

Atul Sethi, the public prosecutor, stated that the prosecution had proved the case beyond a shadow of doubt. He said the medical reports proved that it was not a case of suicide.

After hearing the arguments, the court convicted the accused and pronounced the sentence.
