Gujarat Governor, ex-CEC among alumni to attend Panjab University meet
Panjab University is all set to organise its fifth global alumni meet on December 21. Students from the golden jubilee batch of 1974 and silver jubilee batch of 1999 will be honoured at the event.
The event aims to build better connections among alumni and also raise money for development in the campus and varsity’s growth.
Varsity aims to gather funds more than last year from alumni network
Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat who did his MA in Hindi in 1984 from PU will be the chief guest. Former Uttarakhand Governor and ex-IPS officer Krishan Kant Paul who did his MSc and PhD in Chemistry from PU, former National Disaster Response Force Director General and former IPS officer Atul Karwal, 1985-batch alumnus of University Business School; former Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora, who did his MA (English) from PU-affiliated college in Hoshiarpur, and senior journalist Shekhar Gupta,an alumnus of PU’s Mass Communication Department, will attend the gathering on Saturday.
The varsity also aims to gather more funds than last year from the alumni network. Last year, the university had raised Rs 6 crore from alumni donations, with largest share — Rs 3.5 crore — coming from Dr Arun Verma for establishing a laboratory at the Dr SS Bhatnagar Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology.
In fact, Chancellor Jagdeep Dhankhar during the convocation held in March had asked the alumni to support their alma mater by giving more time and money.
Different departments of the university have been organising alumni meet-ups alongside.
While the University Business School held the programme on December 14, the Department of Public Administration will organise an alumni meet on December 20, a day before the global meet.
