Mohali, August 19
To ensure all eligible voters who could not have themselves enrolled in the electoral rolls earlier or who have subsequently become eligible to get their name included, have been given an opportunity to do so, said the District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain here, today.
The State Election Commission is in the process of making suitable logistical arrangements for conducting elections for gram panchayats in the state. In this regard, the final publication of the voters lists with the qualifying date of Januray 1, 2023 was done in January 2024. The said voter list was duly updated up to December 29, 2023 after receiving claims and objections from the public.
Now, the commission has issued directions to all Deputy Commissioners-cum-District Election Officers, to further direct all the electoral registration officers (SDMs) to take steps to update the electoral rolls which are to be used in the panchayat elections, by accepting applications in Forms I, ll and Ill, for addition, deletion, and correction of votes, respectively, on every working day, and further to hold a special campaign for this purpose on August 20, 21 and 22.
The forms are available at the office of the Electoral Registration Officer (SDMs), or they may be downloaded from the commission’s website (sec.punjab.gov.in), she said.
