Gourav sets new meet record in 20-km walk event at PU
Gourav of GGDSD College, Sector 32, set a new meet record in the 20-km walk event on the closing day of the 76th Annual Athletics Meet of Panjab University. Gourav clocked 1 hour and 30 secs to bag the gold medal. Robinpreet Singh of the same college claimed the second position with 1:37.56s, while Amit Gurjar of SGGS College, Sector 26, finished third with 1:39.07s.
In the men’s long jump event, Shrikant of SGGS College cleared 7.07 m to claim the top podium position. Harhandeep Singh of NDC Fazilka (7 m) and Chootu (6.95 m) of SGGS College claimed second and third position. Ankush of GN Khalsa College, Abohar, bagged the first position in men’s 400m hurdles by clocking 54.30s. Santosh Khati (54.50s) of GGDSD College claimed the second position, followed by Jashan Singh Duhan (54.70s) at third position.
Saurabh of GGDSD College claimed the men’s 3,000m steeple chase gold medal by clocking 8:58.40s and also set a new meet record. Nishant of SGGS College followed suit as he claimed second position with a new meet record of 9:00.30s. Keshav of GGDSD College bagged third position with 10:07.60s.
Dupinder Singh of GGDSD College won the hammer throw event with a throw of 61.21m. Arvind Singh of GHG College, Gurusar Sudhar claimed the second position, followed by Naresh Kumar of SGGS College.
Iqbal Singh (17.94m) of SGGS College set a new meet record in the men’s shot put event, while Amandeep Singh (17.45m) of Panjab University campus claimed the second position. Sanyam (17.40m) of GGDSD College finished at third position.
GGDSD claim overall title
GGDSD College, Sector 32, athletes claimed overall titles (men and women) during the Annual Athletics Meet (A division). In the men’s category, the Sector 32 bagged the top honour by securing a total of 112 points, whereas in the women’s category, the college claimed 108 points to bag the overall trophy. In the BEd (College) category, the Government College of Yoga and Education, Sector 23, won the men and women’s titles. In the men’s event, the college bagged 28 points and in the women’s event the college secured 43 points.
Govind, Sonia declared best athletes
Govind Kumar of GGDSD College won the men’s best athlete title by scoring a total of 1,138 points. In the women’s category, Sonia of GGDSD College grabbed the top position with 1,093 points. In the men’s category (education college), Mohit Sharma of Kenway College of Education, Abohar, bagged the top position with 658 points, whereas in the women’s event, Kamaldeep Kaur of GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sudhar, scored 528 points to bag the top position.
