The Panchkula police crime branch busted a gang of robbers and nabbed its six members, including a minor.

The suspects were identified as Gurpreet, alias Guppy, a resident of Rajiv Colony in Sector 17; Sahid, alias Sahil, alias Mulla, a resident of Mauli Jagran in Chandigarh; Raj, alias Sagar, and Vipin, alias Nihal, both residents of Ashiana Flats in Sector 26 here; and Aman Rajput, alias Pakaudi, a resident of Sector 17 here, besides a juvenile.

The police have also recovered country-made pistols from the possession of the suspects. The police arrested four of them while they were planning to loot a roadside booth in Sector 25. The police claimed to have solved many cases with this arrest, including the attempted robbery at a jewellery shop in Madanpur village on February 15.

Addressing mediapersons, ACP (Crime) Arvind Kamboj said the crime branch team had arrested four individuals from Herbal Park, Sector 26, in Panchkula and recovered two illegal country-made pistols and 10 cartridges from them. He said during questioning, the suspects confessed their involvement in the attempted robbery at a jewellery shop on February 15, adding that the robbers had fired gunshots at the premises but had to leave empty-handed.

ACP Kamboj said that in another case, the suspects had looted Rs 95,500 from the operator of a supermarket near GST Bhawan at Sector 25. He added that they also looted cash and liquor from a liquor vend at Baltana on February 13, adding that two of the suspects were involved in a murder at Baltana in October 2023.

The ACP said that the suspects were planning to carry out a crime at Sector 25 today. “The team of the Sector 26 crime branch reached the spot and arrested them before they could commit another crime,” he said.
